One more thread, one more knot
In this exhibition, I worked with ripping up leftover materials from Aiayu, giving them a new form by weaving with them. In between the leftover materials I have woven with patterned linen threads. The patterned threads are made using a technique called ikat, which I learned from a master weaver during a travel to India. Both materials are woven together with a transparent plastic thread. The finished woven works creates an interaction with light when hanging in backlight, which will change according to the light conditions.
In the exhibition, I have gathered a lot of different references and experiences - from the rag rug tradition I learned from my grandmother, to the ikat technique I learned far away from home, to classic weaving materials such as linen and new shiny plastic threads.

I learned it without words
I learned it on the other side of the world
I learned it in my grandmother’s living room
I don’t know how to do it
My hands do
They cut up old cloths
The cloths transform
I make colours, the light filters through them
I tie a knot, I weave a weft
A striped thread on top of another, staggered or even
Turns into checks, to stripes, to dots
Organising the threads
With great accuracy, with intended blur
I make a pattern, a repeat
Repeating the movement, repeating history
Sitting in the same chair for many hours
So much work, so slowly
I untie again
One more thread, one more knot
